Thomas “Tommy” George Bender, age 74, of Clinton, NJ passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Lyons VA Medical Center in Lyons, NJ.
He was born on September 20, 1947 in Somerville, NJ. He was the son of the late William J. and Anna M. Moellar Bender.
Tommy was the husband of Victoria Stadtmueller Bender, celebrating 5 years of marriage. The couple reunited at their 50th High School Reunion.
He was an U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1968 to 1974. During his time in the military, he was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Tommy’s career spanned decades with diversified business experiences. He worked as Superintendent of New Enterprise Construction in Glen Gardner, NJ in the late 1970’s and went on as President of T & P Homes, Inc. in Clinton, NJ. He also worked as a Project Manager for Kanematsu-Gosho Inc. in New York, NY throughout the 1980’s. He was most recently employed by Voller’s Excavating & Construction in North Branch, NJ as Superintendent.
Tommy loved riding his Harley. He was a very active member of Rolling Thunder Inc. where he served as National Chairman of Government and Veterans Affairs. He participated in numerous charity rides as well as the demonstration in DC over Memorial Day weekend of 2013.
Tommy was also an avid skier. He loved people and enjoyed helping people. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and quick comebacks.
Survivors include his loving wife; Victoria Bender. Two daughters; Angela Exley and her husband James of Belvidere, NJ and Theresa Chapman and her partner Trevor Senior of Belvidere, NJ. Two step-daughters; Sherry Dray and her husband Rich of MA and Lisa Millea of NH. Six grandchildren; Troy Exley, Brook Exley, Cale Exley, Shane Exley, Liam Chapman and Riley Senior. Three step-grandchildren; Georgia Dray, Jacob Millea and Kylie Millea. He is also survived by one brother; John Bender and his wife Cheryl of FL. One sister; Carol Tomlinson of OK.
Predeceased by one brother; William J. Bender Jr. who passed away in 2010.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 2-4pm with Funeral Service at 4pm. All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will be private.
