Obituary

Thomas Robert Bridegum, 83 years young, of Stanton, NJ passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Country Arch Care Center in Union Twp., NJ.

He was born on July 17, 1939 in Mt. Holly, NJ.  He spent his childhood in Maplewood, NJ.  He resided in Stanton, NJ since 1990, moving from Lebanon Borough, NJ.

He was the son of the late John E. and Cora R. Stone Bridegum.  

His beloved wife, Geraldine May Bridegum, passed away in September of 2014 after 43 years of marriage.

He was a US Coast Guard and US Navy veteran, serving from 1956 to 1960.  

Thomas earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History from Rutgers University, where he met his wife Gerri.  He worked as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid for Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, NJ until his retirement in 1999.  During his time at RVCC, he designed and drew the ‘Coat of Arms’ for the college.  

Thomas was passionate about Civil War reenactments.  He was a member of Civil War Reenactors, 5th New Jersey.  He was also previously on the Lebanon Borough 4th of July Parade committee.

Thomas loved sketching and painting, especially watercolors. His artwork was used by the Hallmark greeting card company.  He also enjoyed doing carpentry work around the house and had a passion for collecting minerals and rocks from around New Jersey.

Survivors include one son; Benjamin Bridegum of Stanton, NJ.  One sister; Nancy Betz and her husband Gary of Grand Lake Stream, ME.  One nephew; Gary Betz Jr. and his wife Denise of ME.  One niece; Amanda Dulevitz and her husband Dave of VA.  

Committal service will take place on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 12pm at Newell Cemetery, 156 Foothill Road, Stanton, NJ.
