Ujjal Singh Basra, age 83, of Clinton Twp., NJ, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Basra was born on November 10, 1942 in Lahore, Pakistan, to the late Kishan Singh and Harbans Kaur Basra. He came to the United States of America in 1979, residing in New York and New Jersey. For the past three years, he has resided in Clinton Twp., NJ.
Mr. Basra was the husband of Ranjit Kaur Sahansra, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Mr. Basra worked as an electrical engineer in India. Later, he worked as a pattern maker in the fashion industry in New York.
Mr. Basra loved building things and completing DIY projects. He enjoyed home remodeling and doing electrical work. He was an avid cook, taking pride in his cooking and always cooking with love for friends and family. He was precise in everything he did in life, even including his own handwriting. He also enjoyed traveling and went on a few trips during his retirement. Ujjal was a very devoted Sikh and was dedicated to prayer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three loving children: Manjit Basra and his wife, Ritudeep, of Clinton, NJ; Harmeet Singh and her husband, Yadvender, of Canada; and Surjit Singh and her husband, Hardev, of Colonia, NJ. His grandchildren: Sahajpal, Mandev and his wife, Sumriit, Jasdev, Gurleen, Jusleen, and Gurshaan. He is also survived by his sister, Taran Kaur of Florida.
Mr. Basra is predeceased by his sister, Surinder Kaur.
A prayer service will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 11am followed by cremation, all at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt Airy Rd., Basking Ridge, NJ.
Arrangements are under the direction of Naughright-Scarponi Funeral Home in High Bridge, NJ.
