Wilbert Binder passed away peacefully at his home in Union Township, NJ, on Monday, November 18, 2019. Born in 1921 to the late John and Christine Binder, Will graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ.
Will served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 as a Staff Sergeant in the 99th Depot Repair Squadron, deployed to New Guinea and the Philippines. The World War II Victory and The Asiatic Pacific Service were just two of the medals he earned for his service. Will took a short leave in January 1945 to marry Alvina, and they spent 72 happy years together until Alvina passed in August 2017
After his military service Will worked for the US Postal Service and then became the Building Inspector in Springfield, NJ, where he also served on the Planning Board. He subsequently held a number of Home Construction Management positions, culminating his long career at Kajima USA.
Will and Alvina moved to Hunterdon County in the late 70’s, where they enjoyed the beautiful countryside and wonderful neighbors. Will especially loved to join friends in golfing at the many courses in the region. He also spent many leisure hours in his workshop, as he was quite a master at crafting furniture and other home items.
Both Will and Alvina were long-time members of the Hunterdon Hills Lions Club, where they contributed their many talents as volunteers.
Will is survived by his two daughters, Diane Coffman of Bridgewater, NJ, and Nancy Bodyl and her husband Gregory of Lebanon, NJ, as well as two grandchildren, Michelle Bodyl of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Gene Bodyl of Bronx, NY. He is also survived by two siblings; Alfred Binder of Apalachin, NY, and Dorothy Weathers of Sebastian, FL.
Friends and family will be received at the Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home (26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ) on Friday, November 22, 2019, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm, with a funeral service at 6:00 pm. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Locust Grove Cemetery in Quakertown, NJ.
